Photo by AP/Chris O you can’t accept losing, you can’t win,” legendary football coach Vince Lombardi poignantly once said while in the throes of defeat. New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady mayhave won the trophy bearing Lombardi’s name a record five times, butthe 40 year old signal caller still has a thing or two to learn about sportsmanship judging by his actions Sunday night.

As if Philadelphia needed any more reason to hate this Ugg wearing, son kissing pretty boy, Brady too big for his britches snubbed Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles after the game.

Instead of engaging in the customary postgame handshake with his more formidable opponent, Brady instead hightailed it to the locker room with his head hung low. We’re likely to hear how this was only a mental slip with no deeper meaning whatsoever, but we all know better than that. “Tom Terrific” is a sore loser who doesn’t even have the common decency to give credit where it’s due.

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. The list of quarterbacks who have had success after their 40th birthday isn a long one, with Tom Brady in the midst of a 2017 season that is setting a new standard.

In more ways than one, it the same old Brady. Belichick highlighted Testaverde because of his firsthand experience coaching him at three different points of his career, the final time coming in 2006 with the Patriots when Testaverde was 43 and signed midseason as the No. 3 option.

the end, it comes down to this is a production business, so it doesn matter whether you 22, 32, 42,” said Belichick, who has long held Testaverde in high regard, citing his uncommon athleticism even at the latter stages of his career. “If you not productive, you probably not long for the league. If you productive, there a place. productivity in 2017 has been off the charts. ET), Brady’s 3,632 passing yards led the NFL, and he should pass Moon (3,678 in 1997) for the most passing yards in a season by a player after turning 40. Brady 26 passing touchdowns were tied for second in the NFL with Seattle Russell Wilson, as only the Eagles Carson Wentz (29) had more. And Brady four interceptions are tied for the fewest among quarterbacks who have had at least 200 pass attempts this season.

Having spent the final three months of the 2006 season alongside Brady in New England, Testaverde isn surprised at the results.

around Tom for that short period, I saw how hard he works. It a lifestyle of working out, eating right, taking care of your body, getting the treatments when you get the little nagging injuries, Testaverde said from his Florida home, where he has been retired since the end of the 2007 season. you have to avoid some serious injuries, which knock on wood I did in my career. Tom has, as well.

just putting in the time, and working at it. Once you get to a certain age and then you decide that you want to work out and try to have your career continue, it too late. So it has to start at a younger age, and it has to be a lifestyle. I think Tom, from what I been reading and hearing about, his dieting and workout programs have him ahead of the game. Testaverde started the entire season for the Dallas Cowboys when he was 41 in 2004. He also started six games for the Carolina Panthers when he was 44 in 2007.

When Testaverde signed with New England in November 2006, it marked the third time that he was on a team with Belichick on the coaching staff preceded by his time as a starter with the Cleveland Browns (1993 95), then the New York Jets in the late 1990s.

coached Vinny in Cleveland, his [seventh] year in the league, and then at the Jets [in 1998], and then a decade later from Cleveland to here, you still talking about, to this day, a rare athlete size, speed, not to mention throwing mechanics and technique, lower body strength, upper body strength, could run. The guy could have probably played linebacker, defensive end, running back, quarterback, tight end, safety if that where he had trained, Belichick said.

guys don just come along every day now. If you talking about a guy like that [who] had a long career, that wasn shocking to me because of how exceptionally gifted Vinny was, and he was an extremely hard worker. I say that very confidently about him. doesn fall into the same category when it comes to pure athleticism, but he obviously makes up for it, and then some, in other areas.

Speaking from the rare perspective of a former 40 year old starting quarterback who also spent a half season with Brady a decade ago, Testaverde highlighted one of them.

from being a great competitor, I think what impresses me about Tom is his mechanics and throwing motion. He throws with what I call effortless power,
ugg uk sales Tom Brady sets new standard for 40
Testaverde said. this day, at 40 years old, he probably still has one of the strongest arms in the league.

don think people give him enough credit for that, because I don think they see it on an every play basis where he throwing the football [like that]. He might take a little off on a shorter route and then have to throw it a little harder on a deeper route. Whereas some other players, they have one speed, whether it a short or long pass.

has the ability to have that effortless power and very little flawed motion, if you will. I think that why he able to stand tall in the pocket and not have to really get everything behind it to make a throw, and take that long stride like you see a lot of guys do, and that elongated throwing motion. He doesn have that. Even though he a tall, long lanky guy, he still has a tight, compact throwing motion, which I love to watch. Brady has fond memories of his time with Testaverde in 2006. Prior to Testaverde arrival, it had been Brady and Matt Cassel in the quarterback room.

two young guys, and to have someone who was really a veteran; he brought a lot of experience, a lot of stability, a lot of confidence to the room, Brady said. was just a great mentor for me, and we always kept in touch. I really enjoyed my time with him. Brady, it was the second straight year he had been around a quarterback in his 40s, as Doug Flutie, then 43, had been with the Patriots in 2005.

play with those two, it was very unique, Brady recalled. learned a lot from both of them. said a common link between Testaverde and Flutie was their work ethic and passion for the game, even at that age, which is what many say about Brady today.

For Testaverde, the focus on his age at that stage of his career could sometimes be a mental drain. He sees Brady handling that part well.

toughest thing outside of the physical aspect is everyone talking about it. You hit that 40 number and everyone wants to talk about it, and if you allow it to creep into your mind, it becomes a distraction, Testaverde said.

have enough challenges as you go forward with the season, just the recovery time of the game and going through the week, so there are plenty of things you trying to get through mentally. The last thing you want to be hearing about is people talking about your age. As much as you try to avoid it, and not read or listen, you always hear somebody whether it a family member or friends, a news article or turn on the TV, it seems like it always there. You just have to be mentally strong enough to just use it as fuel for your fire. I know Tom is. said he tried to embrace being the oldest player on the team, and it became a way to bond with teammates at times. Similar to how Patriots players have ribbed Brady about having a padded office chair at his locker this year, Testaverde remembered his final stop at the Jets and how linebacker Jonathan Vilma affectionately called him and was kind of neat if you take pride in doing something that very few people in the NFL have ever done play at the age of 40 or older, he said. I always embraced that and took pride in the fact I was able to play what some might say is a young man game. there were times his age became a point of tension at one of his stops.

was one point when there was a little confrontation with a player and myself. He was telling me, is a young man game. He was actually being disrespectful to me, Testaverde said. I told him, point blank, no, you mistaken. This is a man game. Whether you young or old has nothing to do with it. If you can be productive, you belong, so don make a mistake it a man game. Brady has said he hopes to play until his mid 40s, which is when Testaverde called it a career after starting six games for the Panthers in 2007. Testaverde said he retired to spend more time with his family, not because his physical condition was betraying him, and believed he had another couple of years in which he could have been productive.

As for Brady, Testaverde said, hard for me to know what his body feels like. He played more games than I had, but at the same time, from just eyeballing it from TV and listening to him, if he decides he wants to make a run for five or six more Super Bowls, I think he can do it.

just a mindset, it up to him how hard he wants to work at it in the offseason. There is a lot that goes into it. Sitting here talking about it in a few minutes [of an interview] just makes it seem like nothing. But it a 100 percent commitment of trying to accomplish the goals he sets for himself. It takes a lot.

the older you get, the harder it is to maintain that same level. But barring any serious injury,
ugg uk sales Tom Brady sets new standard for 40
I don see any reason why he shouldn play as long as he wants to.

With Gillette Stadium being turned into a concert venue for Coldplay Friday night concert, Brady was asked by reporters if he will stick around to see the show.

one of my favorite bands, Brady said, it pretty convenient tonight. I think I might try to sneak out there. I like to be out there. I think we got meetings to a certain point, but after that, I love to see it. a quarterback predictably vanilla musical taste would not generate much of a reaction. Yet for many yet to be fully identified reasons, any mention of the band Coldplay brings with it somestrongopinions from Patriots fans and detractors alike. To wit:

To be fair, notallresponses were like this, and many of these were made in obvious good humor. Frankly, the mystery of how liking Coldplay became something that people had to remains a bit unsolved. The band has sold millions upon millions of records, draws tens of thousands of fans to shows around the world, performed in a Super Bowl halftime show with Beyonce and Bruno Mars, and is clearly quite popular. Yet somewhere along the line (the off color joke in 2005 40 Year Old Virgin is the easiest source to identify), Coldplay became a bit of a punchline.

But now, the band members have Tom Brady on their side. He almost single handedly made Uggs a socially acceptable footwear option for men, so we just have to wait and see what Brady can do to ease the Coldplay humans relationship in the United States.

MARQUETTE An Ishpeming couple was honored recently for accomplishing an unusual journey: a 1,400 mile run from the shores of Lake Superior to the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico.

John and Karen Wallace made the trip on foot in 82 days last summer to bring awareness to the Alzheimer’s Association and to raise funds for Marquette County’s Lifetracker project. The project provides an electronic tracking system for Alzheimer’s patients, especially those who wander.

The couple became involved in Alzheimer’s efforts through their jobs; Karen has spent many years working with elderly patients at a nursing home and John retired after 26 years in law enforcement, when he also encountered Alzheimer’s sufferers.

John Wallace said the couple in their mid 50s also made the trip for another reason.

“We wanted to run just to tell people they can do the things they want to do in life,” he said.

And it was an impressive demonstration, averaging 13 to 16 miles a day. The longest they ran in one day was 26 miles, he said.

“Thirteen miles doesn’t sound so bad the first day, or the second day, but when you’re looking at the second month .” John Wallace said.

Still, the Wallaces were met with support and encouragement along the way, often from complete strangers.

“We loved doing it, the people we met and the places we got to go,” he said.

Along the way they raised about $1,000 for the Lifetracker program.

Coordinators of the Lifetracker program honored the couple at a meeting last week.

Marquette County Sheriff Mike Lovelace’s office runs the program, and Lovelace said the system is similar to wildlife radio tracking, except the transmitter is in a small bracelet resembling a watchband. It emits a signal every few seconds and if a person wearing the transmitter is reported to have wandered away, the sheriff’s office can find them with a directional signal. The signal is trackable on the ground for about 5 miles and in the air for about 10 miles,
ugg boots leather TOGETHER WE RUN Journal
Lovelace said.

The program’s been in place for two years, Lovelace said, but only 13 people in Marquette County currently wear the transmitters.

“We have 50 transmitters, so we could take another 37 clients,” he said.

He said the impetus for the program was a case of a woman who was lost near Witch Lake. The sheriff’s office and other agencies spent two weeks looking for her before calling off the search. Two months later, her body was found 5 miles from the search area.

“I said, there has got to be some technology that can help us,” Lovelace said.

So he looked into it and found the Lifetracker bracelets.

Before that, he said, it was not unusual to be searching for an elderly person with Alzheimer’s or other dementia.

“We’ve had probably 10 individuals in the past 30 years, who walk off and not be found alive, or be found at all,” Lovelace said.

ISHPEMING In an effort to raise awareness and money for the Alzheimer’s Association, as well as to inspire others, a couple from Ishpeming ran from Lake Superior to the Gulf of Mexico.

Tuesday, at the Marquette County Lifetracker meeting, John and Karen Wallace were honored for their 1,400 mile trek in which they raised well over a thousand dollars.

They averaged anywhere between 13 and 26 miles each day. They camped alongside the road and stayed with several people they met on their way.

“Once you’re out on the road, you become part of nature,” says Karen. “You become part of the journey and really it’s fascinating how well you can adapt and you can go if that’s really what you want to do.”

It took Karen and her husband over two years to plan their journey, and only 82 days to run from Marquette to Biloxi, Mississippi.

ugg joslyn Toddler works to overcome health challenges

James has made strides to overcome his condition in the last few months. He is now able to consume solid food and liquids, but Pratt said, like everyone, he has his good days and bad days.

For instance, when he is unable to consume the proper nutrients that he needs, he is fed through his G Button (Gastrostomy Button). His mother uses a syringe that hooks to a port on his abdomen, and the food blend is pumped through.

“It’s nice to be able to have him be able to sit at the table with us and eat a meal like a normal kid,” she said.

The boy’s father, Jacob Cissell, said James is just like any other child.

“I don’t know anything different. He’s just a normal, well, I don’t know what ‘normal baby’ is, but he just has an extra accessory,” Cissell said.

While James continues to make progress,

he is still facing challenges.

Pratt said the family recently traveled back to Omaha for another round of tests.

“They were doing what was called a GI Series, putting contrast dye into his G Button and seeing how many ounces it was going to hold,” Pratt said. “It emptied into his intestines too quickly and they called us and said, ‘We’re suspicious of a malrotation,’ which is where your intestines are not where they are supposed to be.”

Doctors ran more tests, confirming he does have a malrotation. Pratt said they are waiting to go to Denver to see what the next steps will be for James.

Although the family has endured challenges and a few setbacks, Pratt said the support from friends and family has been incredible.

“My parents are always there willing to help out with Ariana; now willing to help out with Zyler. It makes things 100 times easier knowing we have that support, knowing we have the community’s support,” she said.

She offers some advice for parents facing similar battles.

“When you’re going through this, positivity is all you really have. You want your child to be happy and maintain that outlook like, yes, things are rough, but they will get better.”

A terrified little girl was locked in a wardrobe for five years by her own parents so she could be used as a sex slave to satisfy their twisted desires.

Lauren Kavanaugh was banned from eating, tortured and raped nightly by her mother and step father.

In events disturbingly reminiscent of the abuse carried out by Austria’s notorious sex fiend Josef Fritzel, Lauren’s childhood was spent living captive in a 4ft by 9ft closet from the age of three, separated from her brothers and sisters and the rest of the world.

When she was pulled from the tiny cupboard aged eight, she weighed just 25.6 pounds the same as the average two year old.

The evil paedophiles called Lauren their ‘little secret’ only bringing her out to rape and torture her but were caught when they showed her off to a horrified neighbour who alerted police.

She was rushed to surgery where she was fitted with a colostomy bag, but her organs were shutting down.

Lauren, now a 21 year old student, is bravely speaking out about her horrifying ordeal so she can help other survivors of sexual abuse.

“One day mum was so sick of me sobbing,

” she said.

“She grabbed my arm and told me, ‘get into the closet.’

“I was huddled in there for hours under a rail of dresses and shirts. I thought it was a punishment.

“There was no water or food, just darkness.”

Lauren was also tortured and burnt with cigarettes.

While she endured endless days of misery and horror, she could hear her brothers and sisters laughing and playing outsise, who were not abused.

She said: “I was weak from hunger and was tied down so I couldn’t fight back.

“I had to eat anything I could find in the closet.

“I was only let out for torture.

“One day, mum ran me a bath and pushed my head under water.

“When I was six mum put a bowl of macaroni cheese in front of me.

“She told me I could chew it but then had to spit it out.”

Lauren returned to school and completed her exams.

She now supports other victims of sexual abuse.

“I’ve started studying psychology at college,” she said.

“I plan to go to university next year. My dream is to qualify as a counsellor.

“But I really want to help victims like me to overcome their abuse and be strong. I’ve been in their shoes and came out the other side.”

Her mother Barbara Atkinson and stepfather Kenny Atkinson, from Dallas, Texas, were convicted of abusing Lauren in 2002 and jailed for life.
