Search and rescue crews searched a 15 mile by 10 mile area in Marmot bay for more than 35 hours to locate the two missing persons. The Coast guard says pararescueman conducted diving operations in the area but were unable to locate the missing persons.
“We and our fellow military partners and the good Samaritans have heavy hearts after an extensive and difficult search in Marmot Bay,” said Capt. Sean Mackenzie, commander of Coast Guard Sector Anchorage.
“We conducted this search and rescue mission as if two of our own shipmates became missing.
The operation is currently working to remove the capsized vessel’s netting in order to confirm they are not inside the vessel.
A spokesperson from the Coast Guard says they are also attempting to salvage the vessel,
meaning they will raise it from the water and bring it back to port.
The Coast Guard cutter Sherman and cutter Shandler are onsite along with a a Coast Guard Aids to Navigation Team Kodiak boat crew, two rescue helicopters and members of the Air National Guard 212th Rescue Squadron.
The good Samaritan crew reported rescuing the master and his crewman from the Miss Destinee, but a man and a woman were still missing at sea.
